Precis News Article Stopping Climate Change

The article Stopping Climate Change from the Economist is an Editorial. Therefore, it is a direct opinion or message the author tries to reach the reader with. The overall topic of the article is the Copenhagen Summit 2009, which has been happening for the past few days. Its main aim: to resolve global warming and Climate Change, to cut carbon emissions and draw up plans to get every country involved in stopping the global threat of temperature change. Through naming in stressing the difference of "poor" and ''rich" countries, as already mentioned in the deck, the author leads the reader to believe that there is a huge gap between the developed and less developed countries, and that they can act only to their abilities. For instance, the author stresses that the USA and Australia weren't involved in the Kyoto protocol, and through listing of their faults and directly mentioning them, he directs the guilt and failure of the two world powers at them. Also, the tone used through specific diction in the article exaggerates the intense threat of global warming, by using words such as "dangerous" or repetition of the word "problem". On the other hand, the article written for the upper market, due to it coming from the Economist, is suggesting exactly what is being planned or what has to be done to improve Copenhagen from Kyoto, which the author sees as an utter failure (diction again).
